Hush, Little Child

Looking back into my childhood years, I only remember pure happiness and sweet innocence. I would always want to go back to that time when my my world revolve around coloring books, cartoons, Disney movies and fairytales.
Right now, however when I watch the news, there has never been a time when a report about "child abuse" be a miss. There were children beaten black and blue by a total stranger or worse, by their own parents. There were young girls being sexually abused. There were reports about babies being abandoned in random places like the mall, airport or even at the hospital right after their birth. And a long list follows...  These horrifying events made me think. Would they have happy memories like I had?
I'm sure you have already heard this phrase, "a child is a gift from God." How could people do this things to a child, to an angel sent from heaven. No child deserves to be treated cruelly. A child should be nurtured with love not with pain.
Thinking about all these, I made a poem. It's in Filipino. Here it is..

Tahan na

Tahan na, kapatid ko
Pakiusap, huwag kang umiyak
Sana nariyan ako
Ipaghehele kita

Nakita ko ang mga kamay mo
Lukob ng dugo
Puno ng mga pasa
Kapareho niyan ang akin

Narinig ko ang pag-iyak mo
Kapag nariyan na si Itay
Tahan na, kapatid ko
Alam kong takot ka

Nasaksihan ko ang pananakit niya sa’yo
Na ginawa rin niya sa akin
Patawad, kapatid ko
Wala si ate

Hindi mo narinig ang sigaw ko noon
Tulog at payapa ka sa iyong duyan
Dumating si Itay nang lasing
Galit na galit

Sinigawan niya ako
Tangan-tangan ang bote ng alak
Hinampas niya ang aking ulo
Saka tumawa nang pagak

Tahan na, kapatid ko
Huwag ka nang umiyak
Wala nang mananakit sa’yo
Dahil sa gabing ito, magkakasama na tayo.

I also found a song for the theme child abuse: Concrete Angel by Martina McBride. It is really a great song. I was definitely moved by it. The video was also a must-watch. I was crying when I was watching the video. It really advocates to stop child abuse. I Write

I write...
      regardless of my grammar
      regardless of the spelling
      regardless of the style

I write...
not thinking of what others might think or say
    not minding comments and feedbacks
    whether good or nasty

I write...
not because my duty calls for it
nor because it's my way of earning a living
neither I am told to do so

I write...
      simply because...
                          I want to.
